On February 27, 2017, the European Union imposed additional sanctions on North Korea, including a ban on the trade of some metals and temporary suspension of scientific and technological cooperation.
The European Council said the new measures include restrictions on trade in coal, iron and iron ore, plus a ban on imports of copper, nickel, silver and zinc from North Korea.
The sale of new helicopters and vessels to North Korea was also banned.
It was worth noting that it was only half a month after North Korea conducted a ballistic missile test. On February 12, South Korea successfully launched an intermediate-range Musudan-class missile.
The European Council stated that the new sanctions on North Korea were the implementation of the 2321 resolution. The Security Council strengthened its sanctions regime against North Korea on November 30, 2016, condemning that country’s 9 September nuclear test.
